The Institute of Nuclear Materials Management

INMM Mission

The Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM) is dedicated to the safe, secure and effective stewardship of nuclear materials and related technologies through the advancement of scientific knowledge, technical skills, policy dialogue, professional capabilities, and best practices.

INMM Vision

The Institute of Nuclear Materials Management will be the leading international professional society for the stewardship of nuclear materials and related technologies to enhance global security.

What INMM Do

Nuclear materials management involves the production, use, storage, transport, handling, protection, accounting and other essential aspects involved with the essential elements of the civilian nuclear fuel cycle, in particular, uranium and plutonium.

The INMM was formed in 1958, and has since grown to a membership of over 1000. At this time, it hosts an Annual Meeting in July, which draws a wide attendance for key plenary talks, many sessions of contributed technical presentations, commercial exhibitors, and numerous opportunities for related side meetings. Moreover, the Institute sponsors a variety of topical meetings throughout the year. Additionally, the INMM publishes the Journal of Nuclear Materials Management quarterly, featuring refereed, scholarly articles from its membership.

The INMM comprises six technical divisions, each covering a major dimension of the overall nuclear materials management domain. E.g.:

  • Facility Operations
  • International Safeguards
  • Materials Control and Accountability
  • Nonproliferation and Arms Control
  • Nuclear Security and Physical Protection
  • Packaging, Transportation and Disposition Division

The institute also has a growing network of professional and student chapters that afford its membership many further opportunities to stay engaged and connected.

CAEN SyS at INMM

CAEN SyS first participation to INMM was in 2017 at the 58th Annual meeting.

For the 2020 edition of the annual meeting ,CAEN SyS will show the SNIPER-GN solution for nuclear security applications.

SNIPER-GN is a new compact Special Nuclear Material (SNM) Portable identifier instrument which integrates a Special Nuclear Material (SNM) isotope identifier with a high resolution hand-held gamma detector.

SNIPER-GN can identify not only gamma  but also neutron emitting sources. In particular it discriminates the neutron emitting sources (Uranium, Plutonium, Am/Be, Cf-252…).

SNIPER-GN is easily deployable in many scenarios. For example:

  • rapid scanning of sensitive areas (restaurants, airports, subway stations, shopping malls, etc.)
  • suitable for terrorist threats like dirty bomb and silent source
  • series of sequential measurements in-field making it ideal for orphan source searching
